Nigerian music sensation, Iyanya, has opened up about a difficult time in his life when he faced financial troubles, and even contemplated suicide.

According to the musician, in 2020, he found himself in a distressing situation after experiencing financial setbacks that led him to lose his home and stay in a hotel.

During a candid conversation on the Tea With Tay podcast hosted by actor, Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, popularly known as Taymesan, Iyanya shared his ordeal.

He revealed that after losing his house, he had been staying at a hotel but eventually could not  manage the hotel bills.

The turmoil deepened as Iyanya found himself entangled in a legal battle with his former management, Temple Management Company, as he was accused of stealing a car belonging to the company.

As a result of these challenges, Iyanya’s career suffered a blow, and he spoke about times he could not perform shows or generate income. Recalling the tough times, Iyanya said, “I was in court for a long time, I didn’t do shows. I couldn’t do anything.”

He explained that the sudden halt in his income affected him profoundly. He emphasized that during successful times, the flow of money is different, and spending habits vary compared to relying on savings.

Despite the difficulties, Iyanya expressed gratitude for the kindness of Alaba, the hotel owner, who allowed him to stay for an extended period.

As the pandemic continued, Iyanya explained that his situation worsened. Unable to perform or tour due to lockdown restrictions, he grappled with the absence of income and the ongoing legal battle.

This accumulation of stress and uncertainty led Iyanya to a point where he almost considered ending his life. Reflecting on the ordeal, Iyanya said, “I almost committed suicide.”

This candid discussion sheds light on the emotional and financial struggles that even well-known figures like Iyanya can face, underscoring the importance of mental health and support during challenging times.
