  • Birds don’t have teeth

  • Birds flock together to protect themselves

  • Birds have hollow bones; Hollow bones are also known as Pneumatic bones which contain many air sacs and are thus hollow. It helps in the flight of the bird.

  • Birds communicate by using various vocalizations, body language, and dances to communicate with each other. 
  • Many birds migrate long distances depending on the season, with the Arctic tern having the longest migration route. 
  • Some birds, like parrots, can mimic human speech.
  • An albatross can sleep while it flies. It apparently dozes while cruising at 25 mph.
  • Puffins can ‘fly’ underwater.
  • Owls can’t move their eyes. As their eyeballs are tubular in shape. Because of this they are able to rotate their head 270° which is still further than any other animal. By swivelling its head round 270° it allows the Owl to achieve 360° vision.
  • A woodpecker can peck twenty times a second and at speed of around 15mph. They can peck 12,000 times per day!
